ABOUT US

Laggan Map

Located in the picturesque Southern Tablelands region of New South Wales, the dedicated volunteers of Laggan & District Rural Fire Brigade have been serving and protecting the community since at least 1939.

The Brigade has always been well supported and served by volunteers, as evidenced by the current total membership in excess of 100, with 52 of those being listed as operational firefighters. All members of the Brigade are from the Laggan District, with the office bearers being drawn entirely from the membership of the Brigade.

Laggan & District Rural Fire Brigade is 1 of 29 Brigades within the Upper Lachlan Shire Council district of the Southern Tablelands Zone of the NSW RFS. Activities are administered through the NSW RFS District Offices in Yass and Crookwell.

Laggan & District Rural Fire Brigade is a not for profit organisation bound by Constitution. All monies raised through membership fees, property contributions, donations and other fund raising activities are used to provide and maintain the operational capability of the Brigade.

BECOME A MEMBER

Interested in becoming a member of your local Laggan RFS brigade?

Laggan & District Rural Fire Brigade is made up of men and women of all ages, backgrounds and professions. We welcome people over 16 to be a part of the Brigade, whether it be as a fire fighter, or in other equally necessary roles such as administrative, catering and training personnel.

We are very fortunate to have two very good fire fighting trucks at our disposal and we welcome anyone who feels they could assist in the maning of these vehicles.  Our Brigade is only as good as its members and we rely heavily on the support of people in the Laggan district community and welcome with open arms anyone willing to do the training necessary to utilise our vehicles safely and efficiently.

Being a member of the Brigade is not just about fighting fires, although that is the principal task. It's also about forming a close bond with other lunatics like-minded people and working together as a team in what we would hope is also a friendly and fun atmosphere.  Even at the severest of busfires there are moments of sheer lunacy.  That is not to say we are in any way blase' about or do not take our safety seriously (it is and always will be our number one priority), only that it can also be enjoyable and extremely rewarding as well as being extremely safe working as part of a team of close-knit like-minded individuals.

We suggest you read RFS Volunteers Brochure which explains the membership process in more detail.

Joinging our Brigade is easy.  Browse to our Contact page and either complete our online contact form or simply contact either our Captain or Brigade Secretary and we will arrange to meet and complete an application with you.
