"prepare, act, survive"

welcome to laggan & district rural fire brigade

Since the Brigade's inception in approximately 1939 as Laggan & District Volunteer Bushfire Brigade, we have been an important part of the Laggan and wider Southern Tablelands and New South Wales communities, providing fire suppression and prevention services and numerous other forms of assistance.

As part of the Southern Tablelands Zone of the NSW Rural Fire Service (NSW RFS), the Brigade not only responds to grass, bush, house and other structure fires, but also provides assistance and fire suppression support for motor vehicle accidents, hazardous materials spills, storm damage, search and rescue and similar emergency situations almost anywhere, anytime.

FIRE PERMITS & NOTIFICATIONS

There are significant penalties for the unauthorised or uncontrolled lighting of fires in NSW. Fire permits help ensure that fire is used safely.  A permit (free from the NSW RFS) sets out the rules around how a fire is lit and maintained, and lets firefighters know when you are conducting burning activities on your property. For specific information regarding the permit requirements within the Laggan Brigade district, please contact our Brigade Captain Peter Anderson on either (02) 4837 3305 or 0466 887 263 or by email to captain@lagganbfb.com.au   BEFORE  lighting any fire. For general information and requirements regarding the lighting of fires, please read the publication Before You Light That Fire.

pIlE BURN NOTIFICATionS ONLINE

Outside the statutory bush fire danger period, it is now possible to lodge your burn notification to the NSW RFS online by following this link.

Please remember that you still also need to notify your neighbours of your intended burn at least one day ahead.

INFORMATION FOR NEW LAGGAN DISTRICT RESIDENTS

First of all a warm welcome to the Laggan district. We are sure you will enjoy your time here in this fantastic little community.

Like most rural areas Laggan is not immune from fire catastrophies and incidents, so in conjunction with our Zone District Office, Laggan Rural Fire Brigade has put together a comprehensive (9mb) and handy document to help new arrivals in the community prepare and protect themselves and their properties from bush fires.

To view and/or download this document, please use this link.

HELP US TO HELP YOU

In order for the Brigade to provide the best possible protection for you, your family and your property, it is essential that we hold as much information as possible regarding your holdings within the Laggan district.

If you have not already done so or if your information or circumstances have changed, please help us to help you by completing the online Property Information Form.

The information you provide is only used for Brigade purposes, and remains confidential at all times between you and the Brigade.

A QUICK REMINDER ABOut property access

In a bush fire Cat. 1 tankers are used for house protection as they carry considerably more water than the smaller Cat. 7.

Our Cat. 1 tanker is 2.4 metres wide, 7.5 metres long, 3.5 metres high and its 17.5 metre turning circle makes it difficult to negotiate under low trees, around sharp corners or make U turns.

Can we get to the rear of your house?

What about bridges or grids?  Will they stand the 13.7 tonne weight of the tanker, and if not are they marked accordingly?
